Origami

I started folding paper in 2007 after picking up some origami books from the library, having finished my required readings early. From those couple of days in 4th grade, I ran with the concept of folding flat sheets of paper into 3D models. I checked out more books from the public library, eventually able to master advanced models. Upon reaching the point where I could fold most of Robert J. Lang's models (Origami master/mathematician), I tried making my own. I now understand and remember many different origami forms and love the integration of spacial reasoning, mathematics, and creativity that origami provides.

Seeing-Eye Dog Training

In my junior year I roomed in an apartment with one of my friends from my hometown, Will Boldizar. Prior to that year, Will approached me and asked if I would be willing to host and help train a seeing-eye dog. Of course I said yes! Will had to bare the brunt of the burden by taking Keegan to his puppy classes with Guiding Eyes but Keegan spent most of his time socializing with people on our floor, being put through his paces by me and Will, playing around, or sleeping.
Training Keegan with Will was a wonderful experience that taught me many wonderful lessons about teaching and caring for a dog. Keegan has now graduated and is a working seeing-eye dog, but I will always treasure the year I had with him and Will.

Gardens

There are few joys in life like watching over and caring for something that grows. Every since a field trip in kindergarten when I was given a strawberry plant, I have raised gardens pretty much every year without fail. I enjoy growing things that eventually produce edible content The only thing better than watching something grow successfully is being able to eat it or use it after it has matured. I had cultivated my garden in the exact same spot for almost a decade with expansions along the way. Now, I have no stationary garden, but settle for potted jungles. :)

Poetry

As night descends our paths shall twain,
one for light and one in vain,
neither hoping to amble asunder,
as one looks up to the other in wonder.

Leaves falling gently from the trees,
shedding their coats of red and gold,
birds talking to the wind,
making warm, air once cold,
and now the blind man finally sees,
as both he and the day grow old,
it matters not how much you've sinned,
but how much love your heart can hold.
Clouds in the deep of the rumbling sky,
as waters light leaps nimbly by,
effortlessly across its top they go,
one two, one two, row row row,
once barely heard now the wind shall howl,
and lift to peak the waves ascerb scowl,
with fall of rain and lightning strike,
tumult darkens the night alike.
But all is not bad in paradise,
the moon now shines clear and bright,
and heaven is watered with the stars' pure light.
Fractured hues of blue and grey,
mottle together and fade away,
layer after layer rose and fell,
as billowing white began to swell,
shadows cast on uneven mounds,
as light is erased while darkness abounds,
and now, as the brilliant energy begins to wane,
the sky gives up and starts to rain.

Thick snow on a grassy meadow,
two doves -- only one shadow,
sky of darkness, field of white,
both marked by either shade or light.
